Financial Aid

Now that you are ready to become a teacher, you may be concerned about the cost. Depending upon the state you reside in as well as the program you select , the cost to obtain your teaching certification will vary.

If you are entering your freshman year of college, you will have a large selection of higher education institutions to select from. Your college costs will depend upon whether you select private or public school, and in state or out of state schools. If you already have a bachelor’s degree and are interested in completing an alternative certification program, you may have more financial aid options available to you than a traditional college student.

Federal Financial Aid

To begin the federal financial aid process, speak with your college financial aid counselor about your available options. Then, ensure you have properly filled out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form, required for all students to complete for federal grant and financial aid consideration. You can obtain this form through visiting your college financial aid office, or by printing it directly from the federal website. If you have any questions throughout this financial aid process, you can call the U.S. Department of Education at (800) 4-FED-AID.

Teaching Specific Financial Aid Programs

In addition to traditional financial aid options, there are a variety of funding programs that were specifically designed for individuals seeking a career in education.

Cancellation/Deferment Options- To review your options for deferment or even cancellation of your student loan debt, review the information available upon this site. Many communities offer this financial aid option for students or individuals willing to teach within rural communities for a specific term length.

Also be sure to speak with your individual state and city’s department of education to determine whether any specific programs are available to financially assist individuals looking to enter the education profession.
