Secondary education

Secondary education commonly refers to middle school; or high school. Students within these grade levels require a different teaching style than those in elementary school.
Secondary education teachers are enforcing the lessons children have learned during their former teachers, as well as working to maintain their current level of learning. Secondary education teachers will also work to foster creative thinking, problem solving skills and brainstorming skill sets through their selection of classroom curriculum and activities. Students in these grade levels are no longer achieving high grade marks by participation alone, but rather by contributing to the lessons and by demonstrating comprehension of the lesson materials.
Lesson plans for secondary education should include a variety of assignments, activities and exercises to enhance the student’s overall learning. In addition to short term homework assignments and activities, students should also begin to participate in longer term assignments with stated end objectives, in some cases lasting an entire school semester. Longer assignments work to teach students time management, an important skill required for success during the remainder of their school years and on into adulthood.
In addition to the education component of secondary education, teachers must also be astute at noticing behavioral issues among their students. Children often experience difficulty during these years with social transitions, particularly if groups from a variety of schools are moved into a single middle school or high school.
