Elementary school teachers work with students in grades one through six in most school districts. Elementary school teachers are responsible for observing the physical, social, and behavioral learning results and habits of the students within their classrooms.
In addition to building curriculums for their classrooms, elementary school teachers establish and enforce classroom rules. Rules and reward systems are utilized to foster learning and personal development among the students. Lesson planning, grading lessons or assignments, communication with the parents of the students about their performance and development as well as light administration responsibilities are also part of an elementary school teacher’s daily tasks.
During their elementary years students build independent habits and learn how to cope without their parent’s ongoing daily supervision. Therefore, an elementary school teacher plays an important role within a child’s overall development.
Teachers must clearly articulate assignments to their students, and must hold them accountable for following directions. Homework is also part of an elementary school teacher’s role, as homework begins to teach children self discipline, an important role for later childhood and into adulthood. These formative elementary school years will often shape the future education success of their students. |
