Comedian Jon Stewart recently went to bat for school teachers while participating in one his favorite pastimes bashing Fox News.
According to The Huffington Post, Fox News has attacked K-12 public school teachers with accusations that they are lazy and greedy. The subject of teacher pay has been at the forefront of media talk shows lately because of the highly publicized protests in Wisconsin. One commentator on the conservative news station recently said that educators are overpaid for their "part-time" hours.
Stewart responded during Thursday night's episode of The Daily Show on Comedy Central. The host called out the Fox commentators on their hypocrisy by playing old footage of the same analysts during the tax cut debate last year. They advocated for an extension of the George W. Bush-era tax cuts for wealthy Americans, claiming that "$250,000 is not rich."
The Washington Post reports that Stewart followed the video montage with a an irony-laden address to teachers in America.
"You are destroying America. Yeah. Look at you, with your chalk-stained irregular blouses from Loehmans, and your Hyundai with its powered steering and its wind shield. I guess bugs hitting you in the face doesn't cut it for old Mr. Chips," quipped Stewart. |
