Top teaching school in Texas looks to open new lab and training academy

1/5/2011

An organization that provides training for individuals who are seeking education jobs is planning to open a new campus in Texas.

iteachU.S., which is a private alternative certification program for aspiring teachers, recently announced that it is awaiting state approval to establish a charter school in the north Texas region. The facilities would include classrooms, a laboratory and a training academy. The program is designed to help people achieve the teaching requirements that are needed to begin a successful career.

In Texas, iteachU.S. currently provides a digital curriculum and hands-on supervision for more than 1,500 professionals who are seeking certification as teachers and administrators in the Lone Star State's public school system. The proposed charter school would be the first alternative lab institution in the country, according to Diann Huber, president and founder of iteachU.S.

In its five years of existence, iteachU.S. has become one of the largest producers of teachers in the state. It is the only program that isn't an institution of higher education that has received the National Council of Accreditation for Teacher Educators (NCATE).

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), certification can help boost teacher pay. Professionals who are certified are more likely to receive higher salaries and reimbursement for their continued education, the bureau reports.
