Teachers and students at several Utah-based schools will soon receive a new batch of classroom toys.
According to The Park Record, the Park City Education Foundation has donated $70,000 to a school district in order to make up for a lack of federal and state education funds. The foundation's staff members have been visiting individual schools within the last few weeks to announce the winning teachers.
Several elementary schools were awarded grants that will go toward a variety of services, including an iPad for a special needs class, baritone ukuleles for a fifth-grade music program and microphone-headset translator for kids in dual immersion programs, according to the news provider.
Some teachers will use the money to purchase state-of-the-art assessment tools for their classrooms. For example, one institution's English department will buy Active Expressions, which is an electronic display board that allows teachers to assess students' understanding of material immediately.
School districts across the U.S. are attempting to come up with better assessment tools for student and teacher performance. California Test Bureau, which is a division of McGraw Hill, has released a webinar series called Performance Assessment for the Next Generation of State Assessments. The slideshow presentations aim to help educators monitor students' college readiness and identify content areas that need to adapt to higher standards. |
