| Clutch delivery Nonprofit group supplies classroom materials to teachers |

Many K-12 teachers do not have the time or money to shop for additional classroom materials, which may lead to a supply shortage in some schools.
However, Classroom Central, a North Carolina-based nonprofit group, has developed a solution for teachers in six local school districts. According to the Gaston Gazette, the organization has launched an initiative called Mobile Free Store, which delivers free school supplies to teachers in high-need institutions.
The program has delivered more than $100,000 in supplies since its inception in October 2010, the news provider reported. The materials are delivered by volunteer drivers from area businesses and transported on pre-packed pallets.
A recent study reveals that a lack of classroom supplies can directly affect the mental health of children. The report, which appears in the Journal of Health and Social Behavior, found that first-grade students who had limited access to materials such as pencils, paper and computers were more likely to get in fights as well as develop anxiety and sadness.
Furthermore, the study's author said that elementary teachers who have a shortage of supplies may become stressed out, which can have a negative impact on the overall classroom environment. |
