Early childhood teachers in Michigan recently got a hand from a Super Bowl champion as part of National Reading Month.
According to the Shelby-Utica Patch, Green Bay Packers linebacker Frank Zombo visited his former school, Oakbrook Elementary, to read out loud to students. He also visited some of his former teachers and took part in a breakfast that featured green and yellow pancakes, which are the team colors for the Super Bowl-winning Packers.
Zombo told the media outlet that reading in front of children is more nerve-wracking than his previous appearance on a nationally televised show on ESPN.
"By reading to them, they might think reading is a little more important. If I can just help one kid today to become a little more interested in reading, my mission would be accomplished." Zombo told the media outlet.
Elementary education professionals who are looking to engage their children in reading activities may consider incorporating sports into their lesson plans.
Meanwhile, Scholastic Education recently released a new program that aims to help teachers promote reading in the classroom. The software, called Read 180 Next Generation, allows educators to communicate with thousands of their peers throughout the U.S. in order to share ideas. |
