Thousands of teachers will listen to an iconic figure speak about the importance of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education during a conference in February, according to a recent report.
Dr Sally Ride, who is the first American woman to ever fly into space, will be the keynote speaker at the 23rd T(3) International Conference in San Antonio. The 59-year-old physicist is a long-time advocate for math and science education, and the conference organizers hope that she will inspire a capacity crowd at the Henry B. Gonzalez Center to build enthusiasm for STEM disciplines.
"We will have thousands of teachers gathered here from across the U.S. and around the world, and I can't think of a better person to inspire them as they return to the classroom with new ways to engage and interact with their students," said Melendy Lovett, president of Texas Instruments Education Technology.
The T(3) annual conferences allow educators to sharpen their teaching skills through hands-on sessions with experienced professionals.
According to the International Business Times, several major U.S. companies are donating money in order to promote STEM education. Time Warner, Nikon and Olympus have recently committed some of their resources to fund initiatives that connect professionals in the science field and students. |
