| California teachers protest budget cuts to education |

On June 15 , California legislatures will make the final decision in regards to what governmental industries and services will be affected by budget cuts. As K-12 education in the state has been proposed as one area that will have its funding reduced, teachers and administrators have decided to take a stand, and will protest in Sacramento on Monday, June 6.
On June 7, the convoy of educators will visit with legislators in an effort to convince them that tax venues - much of which go to the support of K-12 school districts throughout the state - should be maintained. Protesters argue that California Governor Jerry Brown's budget proposal - which would give the education sector $3 billion this year - is a better solution for the state.
If the California legislature decides not to maintain the current tax revenues, a predicted $5 billion will be cut from K-12 school systems and community colleges. As a result, class sizes will increase, the number of days students spend in school will decrease, teachers will be laid off and many student services will be removed from the curriculum. |
