While educators across the world are now expected to prevent cyberbullying against students, a new report reveals that the teachers themselves can be the victims of online harassment.
According to the Metro, the National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) recently revealed that parents are complaining about teachers on social networking sites such as Facebook. The teachers union is concerned that verbal attacks online can lead to rumors and gossiping among other parents and students.
The NAHT warned that online bullying toward teachers can lead to frivolous petitions and campaigns by uninformed individuals, which may waste valuable resources and hamper the education experience for teachers and students.
Russell Hobby, the NAHT general secretary, told the media outlet that parents have the right to express their views, but that they should do it in a more responsible manner, rather than discuss it on social networking sites.
In an attempt to foster a healthy line of communication between parents and teachers, the company ParentLink has released a new product called Teacher Reach. The online tool allows educators to send progress reports, event information and homework assignments to the families of students.
Developers of this technology hope that collaboration between teachers and parents is an essential component to student achievement. |
