Company offers students academic coaching, new opportunities

8/5/2011

A company founded by former biology teacher Samantha Fischer could offer students a chance to excel in their studies and discover their enthusiasm for learning, according to the East Orlando Sun.

The Youth Education Alliance (YEA) is a privately run learning program established to offer students and their parents a range of supplemental education programs to ensure that children realize their full academic potential. YEA offers homeschooling programs, online classroom environments and one-on-one tutoring, according to the company's official website.

"I wanted to educate on my own terms and service the community in my own way," Fischer told the newspaper. "It’s great I still have a classroom full of kids, but YEA gives me an outlet to help kids one-on-one and do all the outreach activities I want to do without going through all the hurdles it would take through a public school."

According to Yahoo! News, Florida scored highly in its annual State Report Card survey. The number of elementary schools in Florida that earned an A rating - meaning that 95 percent of students scored highly on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test - rose by 4 percent in 2011 compared to the previous academic year.
