| K-12 schools join Olive Garden in raising money for blood cancer research |

The Pasta For Pennies program, which was launched by Olive Garden, has gathered more than $6.1 million in pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters from K-12 students through the U.S.
The program - which has raised an estimated total of $53 million over the last 16 years - is collecting the money in support of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). The funds will support blood cancer research and provide services to patients who have leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.
Schools who participate in Pasta For Pennies have collection boxes that students can fill with coins during an annual three-week period. Olive Garden has awarded one classroom at each school for collecting the most money with a pasta party that was personally delivered by a local restaurant.
This year's top fundraising school was Warren High School in Downey, California, collecting a total of $37,575 for the cause. Other top institutions included Princeton High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, which raised $30,560 and William Mason High School in Mason, Ohio, which raised $29,260 in spare change.
"The program raised an outstanding amount of money for our cause this year," said LLS president and CEO John Walter. "This record-breaking total will help us advance our efforts in our mission to find a cure for all blood cancers." |
