| Many teachers buy eBooks on their own dime |

About two in five teachers agree that the price of eBooks will have to drop before they will be integrated into their classrooms, according to a new report.
According to Education Week, the study eBooks K-12 Educators' Usage and Attitudes analyzed the prevalence of eBooks in U.S. schools. Researchers surveyed more than 1,300 K-12 educators, half of whom are teachers and the other half are school librarians. More librarians purchased e-Books than teachers because the expenses fell within their department's budgets, according to the report.
Of the teachers who bought an eBook for their classroom, approximately 72 percent reported that they used their own funds to make purchases. About 92 percent of librarians who acquired the digital devices said that they were paid for by their schools.
Overall, most of the educators who purchased eBooks were optimistic about their impact, as 75 percent of those surveyed said that they will have a positive effect on students' reading comprehension, the news provider reported.
The growing popularity of eBooks among students and teachers has prompted one of the nation's leading providers for educational material to offer free books for download. Kaplan Publishing recently announced that, on January 4, more than 130 eBooks will be available for download on FreeKaplaneBooks.com. |
