| Oklahoma high schools recognized for improving college prep lesson plans |

A total of 24 high schools in Oklahoma have been recognized for their efforts to help students prepare for college.
According to The Ardmoreite, teachers were praised by the winning institutions, which received 2010 College Readiness Awards. The faculty helped increase the level of academic achievement and college readiness. Furthermore, they contributed to each school's increase in the number of students taking the ACT Assessment tests.
ACT preparation includes completing practice questions during English and math classes, hosting a prep workshop and making prep materials available in the school library.
“I am proud to be in a school that cares, and with kids who take it seriously and strive to do better,” Rod Maynard, the principal at one of the winning schools, told the news provider.
Preparing for college is an effort that involves students, teachers, guidance counselors and family members. According to a study conducted by 25 high school students, the majority of students rely on their parents or guardians as the chief source of college motivation and support. The report, called Hear Us Out, was based on survey results from more than 5,000 teenagers from Tennessee and Washington state. |
