The Valley of the Sun YMCA recently announced that it will partner with K12 Inc. to launch 15 iLearn Centers for students in the state of Arizona.
These facilities - which will serve elementary and middle school students later this year - will provide specialized programs for teenagers, including an online curriculum that officials hope will aid high school dropout prevention efforts. At-risk students will have the opportunity to complete the coursework requirements that they need to earn a diploma.
"We are excited to be expanding these programs across the state of Arizona through our new partnership with K12," said Ed Hendricks, executive vice president of community relations for the YMCA. "Our programs will help assist in youth development with community support."
Students will attend one four-hour session each day and have the freedom to attend any number of classes during the week.
Their families will be offered special membership pricing, access to all of the available facilities and access to programs sponsored by the YMCA.
Many iLearn Centers are slated to open as early as this month and will be expanded to include hundreds of new students this fall.
