Teachers who are searching for new resources that can help improve student achievement may consider looking at the "best of" lists compiled by education publications.
For example, Tech and Learning Magazine recently awarded CTB/McGraw-Hill's Acuity InFormative Assessment program with one of its 2010 Awards of Excellence. These year-end honors recognize the most innovative technologies that helped enhance education methods in the U.S. Acuity was named the Best Upgraded Product by a panel of more than 30 educators, who tested more than 140 entries.
Acuity - which is designed to help teachers develop lesson plans that focus on their students' weaknesses - received several upgrades last year, such as a feature that automatically assigns instructional resources to students based on their assessment results. In addition, the product was strengthened with a self-service roster, which makes it easier for teachers to manage student information.
According to a recent study, the program helped improve student performance in Bayless School District in Missouri, which has the state's most diverse pupil population. Approximately 40 percent of its students are learning English as a second language (esl). Despite the vast differences in language comprehension, a case study revealed that Acuity assisted in the increasing number of students who performed in the top 50 percentile on the state assessment tests. |
