LEGO tournament designed to promote STEM education

Many teachers are searching for innovative ways to motivate their students to pursue a career in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.

An Ohio-based middle school has called on an old childhood pastime to promote STEM education. According to the Hudson Hub Times, the institution will host its first LEGO League regional tournament this weekend, and it is expected to draw more than 134 students from the area.

The theme of the competition is called "Body Forward Challenge," and students will be asked to create their own robots out of LEGOs. Participants, who will range from ages 9 to 14, will enter three rounds of biomedical tasks, which are to be performed by their self-made robots, the media outlet reported.

Meanwhile, K-12 teachers who are looking for new classroom experiments have an opportunity to participate in free workshops in the coming months. The company Vernier Software and Technology recently announced that it will hold 32 training sessions that are designed specifically for math and science educators. The events are scattered throughout the country, and they run from February to May.

Vernier's team of 34 trainers will conduct the sessions. As a group, they have accrued more than 918 years of performing education jobs
