IBM recently announced the launch of a new cloud-based software program that will allow teachers to utilize complex lab resources and advanced technical services in their classrooms without the need of an IT professional.
The software package - called IBM SmartCloud for Education - may help K-12school systems and institutions of higher education efficiently address issues such as student retention, grant funding and graduation rates through the efficient analysis of data that the program provides. The new SPSS models that run through the cloud will enable teachers to identify at-risk students in the early stages, and the social networking tools will allow administrators to locate opportunities for funding. In addition, students will be able to gain access to educational resources through the IBM cloud.
"Cloud computing offers educational institutions the ability to transform learning processes to be more student-centered, as well as the potential to reduce costs through shared services," said Michael King, the vice president of IBM Global Education Industry. "Our announcements today lay the groundwork to begin creating these integrated cloud services."
