Amgen, a biotechnology company that develops and manufactures innovative medical therapies, recently announced the recipients of its annual Amgen Award for ScienceTeaching Excellence. In celebration of its 19th anniversary, the company honored 34 teachers from the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.
The Amgen Award is designed to recognize K-12 science teachers for their contributions to their educational field. Individuals who are selected have demonstrated a commitment to advancing the science curriculum in their schools and have shown that their skills have had a positive impact on the academic performance of their students.
"At Amgen, we are committed to supporting programs that encourage bright young minds to explore a future in science," said Dr. Joseph P. Miletich, the senior vice president of research and development at Amgen. "We applaud this year's exceptional winning teachers who are inspiring their students to be excited about learning and science."
In the 19 years that Amgen has been giving out this award, the company has donated more than $3 million in educational grants.
