The Smithsonian's National Museum of American History has announced that it will host an exhibit this fall to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. The museum will also launch an initiative that will include resources for teachers on educational website Thinkfinity.org, a documentary and a ceremony.
Partners of the Smithsonian, including the National September 11 Memorial and Museum, the Pentagon Memorial Fund and the Flight 93 Memorial, will host a conference for educators on August 3 and 4. Lesson plans and resources will be available as part of the organization's efforts to bring September 11-based curriculum to K-12 classrooms.
The corresponding documentary, entitled 9/11 Stories in Fragments, will air on the Smithsonian Channel on September 5 at 10 p.m.
The museum "responded to the tragic events of September 11 by collecting history as it was happening," said Brent D. Glass, the program's director. He added that "10 years later, we will share some of those objects in a personal setting, for visitors to reflect on what it means to be an American today." |
