Thousands of physical education teachers across the U.S. will have the opportunity to listen to a Super Bowl hero.
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who was the Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XLIV, will be the keynote speaker at the General Session of the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) in San Diego on March 31, 2011. The event - which is part of the annual American Alliance for Health Physical Education, Recreation and Dance convention and exposition - is expected to attract more than 5,000 physical education teachers and coaches.
In Brees' nine years in the National Football League (NFL), the quarterback has been elected to four Pro Bowls, named the 2004 Comeback Player of the Year, named 2006 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year and 2008 NFL Offensive Player of the Year. Most recently, Sports Illustrated pegged Brees as the 2010 Sportsman of the Year.
The NFL has had great success in promoting physical fitness and healthy eating among American children through its Fuel up to Play 60 campaign. The program, which has reached more than 60,000 schools across the U.S., encourages kids to engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day. |
