The ACT, a standardized exam that is used to judge a high school student's readiness for college, is accepted by universities throughout the U.S. as part of the admissions process.
Recently, several public charter schools in Chicago were among the top scorers in the state of Illinois. Among the high performers were the Noble Network of Charter Schools, Chicago International Charter School and the Chicago Virtual Charter School.
These institutions were included in a list of the top 10 best performers in the Chicago Public School system.
Andrew Broy, president of the Illinois Network of Charter Schools, said that the results proved the ability of charter schools to drive student achievement and college readiness. He added that these facilities represent 60 percent of the top performers based on ACT scores, which is a measure of a student's projected college success.
"The sad reality, [however], is that ACT scores are still too low in Chicago and indicate that far too many students in charter and traditional public schools are not prepared to enter the workforce or attend a four-year college," Broy said. "We want to see all students in the city perform at high levels, and charter schools are helping to show what it possible." |
