North Carolina teachers have an opportunity to apply for grants that can fund innovative, classroom-based projects.
Any certified K-12 teacher in the Tar Heel State can apply for up to $2,000 this month, as part of the Bright Ideas program, which began 17 years ago and is funded by North Carolina's Touchstone Energy cooperatives. More than 1.2 million students in all subjects have been reached by Bright Ideas.
"North Carolina's Touchstone Energy cooperatives are committed to bettering the communities we serve and there is no better way than through educating our youth," said Morgan Genty, Bright Ideas coordinator for North Carolina's Association of Electric Cooperatives.
Celebrations are held throughout November to honor some of the winning teachers. Some of the classrooms will receive a surprise classroom visit by members of the Carolina Panthers football team.
According to The Martinsville Bulletin, a school district in Virginia will receive more than $4,000 in grants that will fund interactive projects. Four of the grants will allow teachers to partner with a local museum, while one of the grants will expand a gardening program for elementary school students. |
