| History teachers win cash prizes for lesson plans |

For many educators, creating a lessons that are both engaging and informative can be a daunting task. In an effort to recognize teachers who can accomplish this feat, History recently held a lesson plan creation contest for middle and high school educators.
The Innovation in History Education competition - which was launched in accordance with the channels 12-part television series, America The Story of Us - invited qualified applicants to submit lesson plans that coincided with the shows central themes.
Subjects addressed by the winning submissions included the Civil War, the U.S. highway system and the influence of the car on American life, local history as well as the Harlem Renaissance.
Representatives from History selected one grand prize winner and two first place recipients in each category, who received cash prizes of $5,000 and $2,500 each, respectively.
In addition to the contest for teachers, the channel also hosted student and library competitions in conjunction with the release of the series. Every school in the country - including colleges - was eligible to receive a DVD copy of the 12-part program. |
